## What are we working on this quarter?

Math: Fourth Quarter
We will spend some time on measurement, and then we will dedicate the rest of the 4th quarter to problem solving in preparation for the EOGs. Math: Third Quarter
The students started this quarter off using Singapore Math strategies to solve problems involving the perimeter of a rectangular figure. We will then move into fractions. We will work on equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions. Math: Second Quarter
This grading period we started using the Singapore Math strategies to solve problems. Singapore's math curriculum has been recognized worldwide for its effectiveness. The curriculum aims to support students in developing necessary mathematics concepts, and to provide students with the ability to formulate, apply and solve problems. Strategies taught in Singapore Math will help students meet rigorous Common Core standards. Fourth grade has been working on "intervals," "working backward" and "excess and shortage" thus far. Once we have completed a unit, I will add the Google Slides to the Google Classroom so students can go back to look at strategies. This is a good place to go if you are interested in seeing the types of problems the class is working on. |
ELA: Fourth Quarter
This quarter the students will be thinking critically about different points of view. We will be able to practice thinking about different points of view through comics. The students will then write a paragraph about a typical morning routine, taking on the role of a family member and of a neutral third party, to think about different perspectives. They will present these on Thursday, May 17th. ELA: Third Quarter
The students are becoming rhetorical experts. They have been learning about the appeals used in rhetoric, and dissecting commercials to recognize these appeals. After practicing the different rhetorical appeals, the students will the end the unit defending their opinion using rhetoric. ELA: Second Quarter
This quarter the students are researching land forms to tie in with what they will be learning in science. We have discussed that research is an organized, systematic way of finding answers to questions. After researching multiple sources, the students will synthesize their information into a well developed research presentation, remembering to cite their sources. They have the choice of presenting a paper report, or using Google Slides to present. |
